Professional Development for ESL Teachers

Welcome to the English as a Second Language (ESL)
Professional Development Office!

Greetings,

The ESL Professional Development Office at The University of Sacred Heart provides professional development for ESL teachers who work in the public and private schools of Puerto Rico. Students study second language acquisition theory, linguistics, language assessment, pedagogical theory, educational technology and the methodology for teaching ESL.  Students and graduates serve the needs of the wider community, carrying out research projects, providing teacher training, and teaching ESL to children and young adults in the different programs across the island of Puerto Rico.

Current Projects:
(1) English Teacher Certification Project
Preparing professionals to perform effectively as ESL teachers at the elementary and secondary levels in the public and private schools of Puerto Rico. It is geared to teachers obtaining their certification requirements.

(2) Masters in Technology and English Project
Providing teachers with credit-bearing courses for a Master’s Degree in ESL and technology .
