Participating teachers will have the opportunity to:
- Develop the ability to do self-assessment and reflection about their teaching.
- Develop meaningful and challenging curriculum that fosters critical thinking and is consistent with the English Standards.
- Plan and teach effective lessons that are dynamic, interactive and appropriate to different learning styles and intelligences using innovative teaching methods.
- Use the latest educational technology, effectively in the teaching learning and assessment process.
- Use a variety of alternative assessment techniques that are aligned with the English Standards.
- Mentor ESL teachers and pre-services teachers, though modeling, peer coaching, publishing in professional forums of ESL teachers.
- Create collaborative partnerships with parents and administrator geared to improving student achievement in English.
Activities
Teachers will participate in workshops and activities from October 2000 through November 2001. Throughout the academic year they will meet for four hours every other Saturday beginning October 2000. In June they will participate in an intensive institute for ten days, five hours each day.
